Round #2 at McCullough's started out with a wonderful morning with lots of practice time. The larger drivers stand provided for extended and intermixed practice without separating classes. With the threat of rain (yes I finally said it) due through out the day. We started the racing session early in hopes to get the whole program through with out having to reschedule the race. Part way through the first round we experienced our first rain delay of the day. This set us back about an hour and 10 minutes. All the racers pitched in to get the track back in order and racing resumed.
The first round provided some weird traction. The surface was quiet tacky yet slick upon entering the corners. But the racers still showed they had what was needed to race in the championship series! There were some amazing battles through out all classes for the Top Qualifier position.
As we moved on to the 2nd round of qualifying the sun started to peak it's head out drying out the track just a tiny bit. And traction went through the roof. This round provided the fastest times through out all nine classes. This really showed who had what. Especially when 2wd Mod Stadium Truck started clearing the triple. Jim Lonzo had his ST dialed! I enjoyed watching this class blast around the track. Hopefully next year we can revive 1/10th Gas Truck for the series! Another class that really showed up was 1/10th 4wd Mod Buggy. Brandon Marsh was on rails laying down faster laps than most classes.
Moving on to the mains we kept watching the radar as the clouds started rolling in and getting darker and darker. We were fortunate enough to make it through part of the mains. But sadly due to the amount of rain we had to finalize the remain classes based off of qualifying positions.
Even with the rain out everyone was happy and the new entries into the series wanted to know when and where the next round will be taking place. Round #3 will be at RCX213 in St. Clairsville, Oh on July 12th. This series even in its infancy is growing very rapidly! This really shows the support and love everyone has towards this wonderful hobby we all enjoy! I hope to see everyone and many new faces at the next round!
Till then...Stay charged and HAMMER DOWN!!!
